THE 40 FEET TRILOGY

9 min., digital video, German with English Subtitles, 2004/05.

“The 40 Feet Trilogy” portrays river Avon in South West England, where it carves its way through the city of Bristol. Spanning 40 feet, the tidal differ- ence of the Bristol channel is one of the highest in the world. The film tries to write a potential biography of this naturally elusive place, narrating fragments of its actual or potential history, from its formation through Iceage glaciers to the mythical transportation of stonehenge’s monoliths; from the discovery of the Americas and the transatlantic slave trade to a large number of suicides from the bridge in recent days.
